golden section Besides the rhythmic grid and the regulating lines Le Corbusier takes advantage of the relation of the golden section. Several decisions of the design might be related to this ratio.

Argument: The equation of Le Corbusier is not quite true. It states that 3:5 = 5:8. The ratio 3:5 and 5:8 only approximate the golden section ratio, with an error of about 4 percent!

"...A unit gives measure and unity; a regulating line is a basis of construction and a satisfaction." L.C. [8]
side facades The side facades are less noticeable than the main facades. Both have the same proportion with a ratio of 5 to 51/2 units. The closed units of the facade cover the central three units of the grid while the outer compressed units are opened. The only openings in the facade are three different sized windows. The side facade supports the entire villa as one single block. On level 3 the walls direct the view towards the garden and enclose the rooftop.
